A few weeks ago, families from all over the area gathered at Callahan Park in Bradford for one of the most exciting community events of the summer—Touch the Truck. The park was filled with the sounds of laughter, sirens, and diesel engines as kids climbed into fire trucks, explored dump trucks, and honked horns on construction vehicles. But beyond the big wheels and flashing lights, there was something else drawing a crowd: the Bradford Kiwanis Club booth.
As part of our commitment to serving children in our community, Kiwanis members gave away free books to children of all ages. Dozens of kids stopped by to pick out a story to take home—many flipping through pages on the spot with big smiles and eager curiosity.
Next to the books, the Kiwanis crafts table was a hit with young artists thanks to the creativity of Nancy Dryden, who organized and led the craft activities. Children had the chance to paint mandala designs on rocks—a fun and calming activity—and make their own little road signs, which perfectly tied into the transportation theme of the event. A big thank-you goes out to Nancy for not only coming up with these thoughtful craft ideas, but also for running the table with so much care and energy.
Pat Ryan also lent a helping hand at the crafts table, guiding kids through the activities and keeping the creative momentum going all day long.
We’re grateful to all the Kiwanis Club members who came out to help give away books, talk with families, and represent our mission to support and inspire local children. It’s events like these that remind us how powerful community connection can be.
Thank you to everyone who joined us at Callahan Park. We’re already looking forward to next year!
