Kiwanis Club Receives Tree Farm Update and Gears Up for a Busy Holiday Season

Nov 19, 2025 | Weekly Lunch Updates

The Kiwanis Club of Bradford held its weekly meeting with a full agenda of community updates, holiday planning, and an important report on the club’s historic tree farm property.

Tree Farm Assessment Shows a Need for Action

Patrick Anderson of Forestry Solutions joined the club to present the findings from a full forest inventory conducted this fall. The assessment shows that much of the mature black cherry on the property is experiencing decline and red rot—both natural results of age and changing soil conditions.

Anderson recommended moving toward a timber sale in the near future to capture the remaining value of these aging trees and allow the healthy younger forest, now about 30 years old, to take over. Revenue from the eventual harvest would follow the long-standing agreement benefiting the Kiwanis Club, co-owner Paul Kobina, and the Bradford Regional Medical Center.

Club members asked thoughtful questions about forest health, long-term cycles, and the future role of the next generation of trees. Anderson’s full summary email has been shared with members for further review.

Kiwanis Kapers Rehearsals Underway

Rehearsals for this year’s Kiwanis Kapers are in full swing, with nearly 30 young performers—a significant increase from last year. Christine and Trevor have been doing outstanding work with the cast, blending fun with disciplined practice.

Several members will also appear in a trick-or-treat scene, handing out candy during a choreographed number. The show is shaping up to be one of the most energetic productions in years.

Holiday Events on the Calendar

The Club has a busy December ahead:

  • December 2 & 9: Regular program meetings
  • December 16: Annual Beacon Light Christmas Party at the E. Main St. Beacon Light Facility
  • December 23: A lighthearted gift exchange (bring something around $5)

Members who haven’t yet RSVP’d for the Christmas party can contact Kim Thurst or Dick to ensure an accurate headcount.

Kapers Advertising Reminder

Advertising support for Kapers has declined in recent years, and members are encouraged to each reach out to at least one local business—dentists, insurance agencies, pizza shops, veterinarians, chiropractors, and more. Before contacting anyone, members should check with Paul to ensure no duplicate outreach.

Building Momentum Together

The meeting wrapped with Happy Dollars, warm welcomes to guests, and a shared sense of excitement for the busy season ahead. As always, the club remains focused on serving youth, supporting community projects, and strengthening Kiwanis’ presence in Bradford.
